Archaeologists are searching for the grave of Richard III, confident that they had found in the excavation of the ancient Church of the skeleton belongs to the missing king. English King Richard III was killed at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.
The excavations on the site of a parking lot in the city of Leicester, archaeologists discovered the remains of a person with spinal cord injuries and split in half a skull, it suggests that the person is none other than himself who was killed the king. Researchers from the University of Leicester are currently engaged in the analysis of DNA taken from this skeleton, and comparing it with the DNA of other members of the royal family.
Professor Lin Fokskholl (Lin Foxhall) from the School of Archaeology at the University said: "Archaeologists are almost never found the remains of some important people. This is something absolutely extraordinary. We do not have 100-percent sure, but still a godsend simply amazing ".
A representative group of researchers reported that a skeleton found there are signs of fatal injuries of the skull and the spine is the trace of an arrowhead. Some historical documents mention that Richard took off his horse and killed by a blow to the head. Analysis of the skeleton also shows that the man suffered a serious scoliosis - curvature of the spine.
Although these problems with the spine does not indicate that the life of a person could have a hump on his back, as described Richard III Shakespeare, but for scoliosis in the adult could have one shoulder higher than the other.
Since Richard III was defeated by the enemy, his funeral cost without much pomp, he was buried in the ancient monastery. The monastery was destroyed in the 1530s, but the documents confirming the burial place preserved. The excavations, which began on August 25, were found the remains of the monastery building for community meetings, as well as the church.
The work was done in the area of the sanctuary of the temple in the center, where he was buried, Richard. The remains have been raised by archaeologists, who were dressed in special suits to reduce pollution of modern materials.
Researchers isolated DNA from bones found and compared it with the DNA of the representatives of the family of Richard. For the detailed analysis will take about 12 weeks, scientists said.
If the person of the king is installed, his remains will be reburied with honor and respect with all the necessary religious rituals and ceremonies.
